I’m back on schedule this week, so I don’t want any complaints from all the readers out there that gave me grief when the last Power Rankings came out on a Sunday.
Just kidding…no one gave me any grief. I’m not sure that anyone even read that post.
Here is the latest MLB Power Rankings…try and share it with a few friends if you have the time.
1. Texas Rangers (6)
2. New York Yankees (5)- The 10-game winning streak is over, but the Yankees are still one of the hottest teams in baseball. The most shocking thing about it all is that Baltimore is still only 2.5 games back.
3. Los Angeles Dodgers (1)
4. Washington Nationals (2)- Can the Nationals keep pace in the NL East during the dog days of summer? Come on, that’s a clown question, bro…
5. Cincinnati Reds (8)
6. Los Angeles Angels (13)- Every time Los Angeles looks like it’s going to close the gap in the AL West, the Rangers go on a tear. The Angels’ offensive production has improved steadily in June, however, so it could be worse.
7. Cleveland Indians (12)- Ultimate Payback, MLB Edition: On this week’s show, Cleveland gets revenge on in-state rival Cincinnati after being swept at Great American Ballpark last week.
8. Baltimore Orioles (11)
9. New York Mets (15)- R.A. Dickey is a legitimate Cy Young contender, and is the poster boy for a Mets team that has no business being where it is in the NL East standings right now.
10. San Francisco Giants (7)
11. Tampa Bay Rays (3)
12. Pittsburgh Pirates (10)- If the Pirates are smart, they will attempt to make a run at the postseason by acquiring some offensive pieces at the trade deadline. Pittsburgh’s pitching is good enough to give this team a chance.
13. Chicago White Sox (9)
14. Atlanta Braves (4)
15. Boston Red Sox (20)
16. St. Louis Cardinals (16)- St. Louis will continue to hover around .500 for as long as the injuries continue to mount. The problem is that this year, the NL Central looks to be more than a one team race.
17. Toronto Blue Jays (17)
18. Detroit Tigers (18)- Detroit is slowing picking up steam, but true saving grace for the Tigers is the fact that they play in the weak AL Central. No one is pulling away in that division.
19. Oakland Athletics (25)
20. Arizona Diamondbacks (14)
21. Miami Marlins (19)
22. Kansas City Royals (26)- Fans in Kansas City don’t need to wait until the All-Star break to see decent baseball played at Kauffman Stadium…the Royals are just 4.5 back in the AL Central and have won seven of their last ten.
23. Milwaukee Brewers (22)
24. Philadelphia Phillies (21)
25. Seattle Mariners (23)
26. Minnesota Twins (28)
27. Houston Astros (24)- This is when you know things are bad: the Astros want to hire Roger Clemens for a “player development” role with the team.
