St. Petersburg Bowl Preview

As usual, I did not start off the first weekend of the bowl season very well.

Going 1-2 on Saturday, I actually have the worst record in my group, although taking Temple for 24 points still has me in 4th place overall.

I actually have a lot of points riding on the weekday games this week, so it should be an interesting next few days. To start, here is the preview for tonight’s game.

Beef O’ Brady’s St. Petersburg Bowl

Florida International vs. Marshall

The Sun Belt conference has provided one entertaining game already this bowl season, and considering Florida International’s personnel, there is a good chance that the Golden Panthers will make it two this evening. This game has the potential to be a struggle between Florida International’s potent offense and Marshall’s stifling defense.

The Golden Eagles have one of the better and more underrated receivers in the nation in T.Y. Hilton. Hilton is an undersized player with a ton of speed that has the ability to hurt opponents in several ways. Not only can he take it the distance as a receiver, but he has the ability to be a game-changer in the special teams department as a kick returner as well. However, getting the ball to Hilton may be an issue for quarterback Wes Carroll if Marshall defensive end Vinny Curry has anything to say about it. Curry, who leads his team in sacks with 11 on the season, is a monster and could be a problem for Florida International’s offensive line. Getting constant pressure on the quarterback will be a key to victory for the Thundering Herd. Nevertheless, I believe that Hilton, thanks to a big play or two, will help the Sun Belt conference get out to a quick 2-0 start in the bowl season. I have Florida International for 11 points in this game.

Final Score: 31-27 Florida International
