Aloha From Hawai’i

Last night’s game lived up to the expectations that I had for it. Although the score would suggest that it wasn’t close, it was really a great game for three quarters. Navy really has to be within a touchdown in the 4th quarter to win, and a minute into the final quarter, they were down by two scores. They just don’t have the passing game to make up that big of a difference in that amount of time. Unfortunately, Navy’s loss means that I lost six potential points in the College Bowl Mania game. However, all but one person in my group also had the Midshipmen, so I actually may have benefited from the loss.

Tonight’s game should be just as interesting. Here is my pick for the December 24th bowl game.

Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl

Hawai’i vs. Tulsa

This bowl game continues to be one of my favorite games of the entire bowl season. Granted, a lot of that has to do with the fact that it is played on Christmas Eve, and I feel like I’m getting an early Christmas present. But the only reason it feels that way is because of the show that is routinely put on by the two teams that participate. Offense has long been a selling point for the Hawai’i Bowl; in fact, since it has been sponsored by Sheraton Hotels, the winner has never failed to score less than 35 points. This year should be no different.

Both Hawai’i and Tulsa have offenses ranked in the top ten in the nation, and both teams also average over 39 points per game. Needless to say, there will be a lot of offensive fireworks in this one. Which quarterback has a better night may end up determining the outcome of this game. Tulsa’s J.G. Kinne has thrown for over 3,300 yards this year, while Hawai’i field general Bryant Moniz has amassed over 4,600 yards passing on the year.

It will also be interesting to see how the atmosphere affects this game. Tulsa is riding a six game winning streak, but Hawai’i fans will be out in full force to cheer on the Warriors in their home stadium. Surprising as it may sound since this is a bowl game, the fans may become a factor in this game.

While I do think both teams will be matching each other blow for blow on the offensive end for most of the night, I have a little bit more confidence in Hawai’i in this one. I have the Warriors for 20 points in the College Bowl Mania game.

Final Score: 45-34 Hawai’i

– K. Becks

I want to take this time to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. Also, to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has come to the site since it’s makeover; I really appreciate it.
